Jenna LaMaster Takes the High Road On New Cheating Song, “His Name Was John”

“Everyone has a John!” exclaims rising country star Jenna LaMaster of her highly relatable new song that exposes the cheating…but not the cheater.

Out now, “His Name Was John” tells the cinematic story of a guy who seemed like the “forever kind,” with the hook hidden in not only his lie, but hers, too. Co-written by the Northern California native with Dustin Christensen, Colton Venner and Dan Wilson, the song highlights LaMaster’s knack for raw, emotionally transparent lyrics that transform personal experiences into songs that feel universally lived-in.

“Maybe ‘John’ isn’t their name, but it’s the person who left a mark on your life,” says LaMaster of the endless real-life stories behind the song. “Maybe you’ve shared your story a hundred times. Maybe you’ve never said a word. Maybe you’ve wanted people to know what really happened, but you also didn’t want to tear someone else down in the process. I wrote this song about one of those stories, hoping it would help someone else feel a little less alone in theirs. And if their name is still painful to say out loud, you don’t have to. You can call them ‘John.’ That’s what I did.”
